It’s an incredibly bold claim: that eradicating extreme poverty can happen in this generation. But Compassion International’s Dr. Scott Todd believes it is also surprisingly realistic. His book, Hope Rising: How Christians Can End Extreme Poverty in This Generation, documents recent gains that are absolutely amazing. More important, it tells stories of Christians that are making a difference at all kinds of levels.
The first key, he believes, is child sponsorship — the kind that involves both the child’s family and a local church. At present Compassion International home page reports matching 1.75 million children, each with an individual sponsor.
In this interview I ask Dr. Todd: “Be very specific. What are the most strategic specific steps a local church can take to end extreme poverty in this generation?” Take a listen, and see what he says.
