Robert Emmitt: Get Out of the Boat

April 14, 2011

The boat is not a bad thing. The boat is tradition, normal, familiar, what works most times. The boat is good. Jesus told his disciples “get in the boat a whole bunch of times.” He only said get out of the boat one time. Once in a while the Lord says to someone in the boat to “get out of the boat”. I liked the boat. I thought of every way I could to not get out of the boat. I had pastured a church for 1 week. I resigned. I started Community Bible that night.

The last 20 years have been the most phenomenal and fruitful years of my life. All because when He said “Robert get out of the boat”, I got out of the boat. Maybe the Lord is telling you “get out of the boat”? Don’t get out for the wrong reason Don’t get out of the boat because you – Don’t like the people in the boat – Because your tired of the denomination, rules, etc. Get out of the boat if – If you want to reach people the people in the boat don’t want to reach – If you want to do a ministry that the Lord has put on your heart to do, that the people in the boat don’t want to do It’s scary, challenging, you’ll get wet. But if you will get out of the boat and follow Jesus as He calls you to, He will take care of you, He will trust you, He will bless you.

Discussion Questions:
1. Is God telling you to get out of the boat?
2. If so, can you give up your fear and trust God? How?
