Mark DeYmaz: Should I Stay or Should I Go?

April 11, 2011

How do you know when it is time to move on?

As young pastor, came to a new, mega church. Was scared. Was so dependent on God. – Over 5-6 years, God did some amazing things. – Found it didn’t require faith anymore for me to be there. – My staff, the kids, the volunteers didn’t need me anymore.

Hebrews – without faith it is impossible to please God. We had risen to the top of our game in Student Ministries. – Didn’t require any more faith. – We desperately wanted to please God. – We knew we needed to be in a dependent position in order to see God. – Some of the things we do, it’s just easy to do. Did God do that or did I do that? Felt God was calling us on. (Genesis 12). Didn’t know where.

Out of the blue one day, while discussing race relations with barber – God calling me. – “Come over and help us” experience. – Planted Mosaic. How do you know if its time to stay? How do you know if its time to go? Does it require faith? Without faith it’s impossible to please God. You need faith to remain, you need faith to go. Be in a place where unless God shows up, it doesn’t happen.

Discussion Questions:
1. In your current role, does it still require faith?
2. Describe a recent experience where you had to depend on God.
