1) Conversion to Christ & Being Mentored Story of life before Christ/how I came to Christ Being mentored, first by my pastor, then by slightly older believer. When you have people come to Christ, mentor them. Spend time with them. They need a place to go to share thoughts and doubts. Give thought to your s piritual formation plan.
2) From Pastor To Consultant Our church had success, and decided to become a teaching church. We would invite a team of staff and lay people to spend 3-4 days with our staff and key leaders. We would debrief what we were doing, how we were doing it, and why we were doing it.
A few years later, I was spending 150-200 days away from my church consulting. The teaching part had been successful. Our church had exploded in size. I had to decide whether to be a pastor or a consultant. We decided that in a few years I needed to become a consultant. I left the church 8-9 yrs. later.
Always be open to God’s dream for your life. I didn’t want to be a consultant. All the time I was pursuing a dream that wasn’t mine; it was God’s dream. In time it became my dream.
Always follow God’s dream for your life even if it trumps your own. Because you’ll never look back over your life and say “what in the world happened? I didn’t succeed, I didn’t fulfill, I didn’t reach my potential.” If you follow God’s dream, you will never be disappointed.
1. What are the strengths and weaknesses in your current approach to spiritual formation and mentoring?
2. What is your life’s dream? Is it God’s? If not, which one are you pursuing?
