While the size of megachurches has remained relatively constant, the number of young large churches continues to grow rapidly. The role of large church senior pastors continues to change with the rise in multisite, multiethnic, and externally focused churches. Team ministry and the role of teaching pastors has become more prominent while denominational involvement has declined. Dave Travis, Leadership Network’s managing director, examines these trends and other developments in the role of large church senior pastors.
In this podcast, Dr. Warren Bird interviews Dave Travis about the changing role of large church senior pastors. In their discussion they talk about how the change in demographics has contributed to the rise in megachurches. They discuss how megachurches are growing very fast very quickly. Many of these churches are less than ten years old and they are thinking about going multisite early in the life of their church. Questions such as, “What does a healthy succession look like? and “How do senior pastors balance their personal and professional lives? are also addressed.  Finally, the future of senior pastors is discussed due to the rise of team leadership.
