One of the current conversations taking place among some of Leadership Network’s most innovative, alumni church leaders centers on the question, “What’s next?” Some of the most impactful churches around the country are asking this question in earnest, not because they are losing ground or are experiencing a decline in their influence within their communities, but because they realize that no matter how well things are going now or how strong their current ministry approaches are, they must constantly be thinking about the future. These leaders are committed to always thinking about the next chapter in their church’s ministry.
Over the past several months, many of these leaders have contacted us, asking what we are seeing, hearing, and sensing with regard to “what’s next”. This prompted us to do a few things:
- Write a book! Our CEO, Dave Travis, recently published What’s Next: A Look Over the Next Hill for Innovative Churches and Their Leaders to help leaders better understand what we see happening around us in order to prepare them to anticipate what’s next. More information on Dave’s book can be found here.
- Convene an online conversation with church leaders. Last fall we convened an online video dialogue where two of these leaders—Michael Slaughter of Ginghamsburg Church and Bob Roberts of Northwood Church—shared their thoughts on some of the key issues that are impacting the future of the Church, as well as their ‘hunches’ on what that will mean for their own congregations. Some of the topics from this event will be highlighted in upcoming blog posts.
- Develop a What’s Next Leadership Community that launches April 8. We believe our process of gathering peers to help each other out along this journey of transition, along with input from Leadership Network Directors and Resource Advisors, will help churches identify, launch and implement “What’s Next?” in their story. Watch the video below as Greg Ligon talks more about this unique opportunity:
