Global Missions Leadership Community forming in March 2013

Posted on 11/9/2012 by Eric Swanson in the Learnings Blog

Do you find yourself thinking about increasing the effectiveness of your Global Missions? For most churches, Global Missions consumes 5-10% of the annual budget but what we do is often just an iteration of what we did last year...and the year before that...and the year before that. Peter Drucker observed, "Any time an organization fails to change at the rate of the world around it, that organization is doomed to failure." Today is the day to lean into the new realities of our changing world. The Global Connections Leadership Community (GXLC) focuses on breakthrough ideas to increase missional effectiveness on both the going and receiving sides of missions in view of new global realities of mutuality, partnering, cities, when helping hurts, business as mission, etc. This GXLC is NOT ABOUT getting everyone in your church to go on a short-term mission trip. It IS ABOUT increasing the missional effectiveness of your global ministry in everything you do.

I have started three GXLCs that have been meeting four times over two years. Working with stellar churches like Perimeter, Mariners, Christ Fellowship, LifeChurch.tv, the Austin Stone, Wheaton Bible, Fellowship Bible, etc enforces the value of being in the same room with passionate, creative and innovative thinkers. Our meeting space becomes (in Steven Johnson’s words) “a dating service for ideas” where we transform ideas to innovations to impact. If you want to look at a couple missional breakthroughs, check out these posts:http://leadnet.org/resources/advance/what_if_we_did_the_opposite or  http://leadnet.org/blog/post/the_mission_of_business

The gathering dates for this Leadership Community are:
•         March 6-8, 2013
•         September 11-13, 2013
•         February 26-28, 2014
•         September 10-12, 2014
