This map was from a post in 2008 - it showed what social networking sites dominated which countries at the time (April 2008). It wasn't clear if there was one dominant social network. Rather - each country had its own flavor of social network that fit their language and culture:
From this post, an updated map showed the landscape in June 2009. Facebook became the most popular social network in almost all English-speaking countries:
Another update in Dec 2009 showed Facebook made even more strides, becoming the dominant social network in Latin-America, Europe, and Africa as well. It even managed to displace Orkut in India (Orkut was hugely popular in India for the past few years):
