Multisite Is Multiplying: Survey Identifies Leading Practices and Confirms New Developments in the Movement's Expansion
There are an estimated 3,000 multi-site churches in the United States and recently Leadership Network invited many of them to be part of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive survey of multi-site churches. The idea was to gain further insight into the phenomenon and to discover how churches are making it work. A number of findings surfaced, highlights include:
- Multi-sites now outnumber megachurches
- Multi-site is mainstreaming and crossing cultures as well
- Multi-site is birthing other sites and churches
- Mult-sites reach more people and mobilize more volunteers
- Multi-sites have a 90% success rate

Now I feel stupid. That’s cleraed it up for me
Hello, I am a graduate student at Wesley Seminary, helping Dr. Bob Whitesel with some research. We are trying to locate research comparing the survival rates of stand-alone church plants compared to new sites / sub-congregations within an multi-site church. I’ve spent hours searching for such information, and I’ve come up short. In this paper, the author claims a 90% success rate for multi-site launches. There is not a timeframe attached to this. I’m wondering if this reflects life after 1 year, 5 years, or some other timeframe. If I could know this, I can combine this with results from other church planting studies to come up with the comparison I need.
Thanks,
Nick
